Go chasing waterfalls and dig into Idaho’s geologic past and unique landscapes with this two-day sojourn through south central Idaho.
Day One:
Twin Falls, Hagerman & Buhl
Jumpstart your day with a fresh and filling breakfast with local ingredients at Yellow Brick Cafe in Twin Falls. After, cheese lovers will want to head next door to Glanbia Cheese Marketplace to grab a snack for the day’s adventures. Take a drive to Thousand Springs State Park and Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument, where you can learn about the saber-toothed cats, mastodons and the American Zebra that once roamed the region. Fuel up on lunch at Magic Valley Brewing in Buhl before spending the afternoon chasing two sets of waterfalls. Perrine Coulee Falls features a short walking trail leading you to the base and behind the cascading water that descends 200 feet. Next venture to the Niagara of the West, Shoshone Falls, which plunges 212 feet. Wrap up the day with dinner served with an unbeatable canyon view at Elevation 486. Sate the appetite you’ve worked up with a burger or steak at The Outpost Steakhouse and then continue your outdoor expedition with mountain biking or hiking at Castle Rocks State Park, where you’ll find ancient rock formations, Native American pictographs and historical California Trail markings. After all that activity, you’ll be ready to indulge in a flavorful meal at Heyburn’s local gem Stevo’s, and then end your day with a comfortable stay at Hampton Inn Burley, offering views of the Snake River.
